THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF GERALD DURRELL

If you want to introduce your teenager to Natural History,  read the hilarious  books of Gerald Durrell, an icon of nature conservation. He traveled the world keenly observing people and animals. He begins his memories with the very funny and loving account of a ten year old and his family  living on the island of Corfu.  My Family and Other Animals  is a must read for anyone who loves animals. I have three of his novels and when I want something to lift my spirit  I turn to Mr. Durrell.

  1. I love this book -- and all the others in the series. I read them as a teen and my children read them...it was hard to explain to them however, why we were not immediately moving to Corfu.

    1. A few years ago, I read Susan Hill’s novel, Howard’s End Is On the Landing. If you haven’t read it, then give it a try. It’s about writers and she gives high praise to Gerald Durrell. After reading his first book, I was hooked and read them all. So wonderful, I try to recommend his work to anyone who will listen.
Thanks for your feedback. I’m reading Charles Palliser’s Rustication. Not as fast paced as Quincunx, will post a review later.
